If you were holding out hope that Pete Davidson and Ariana Grande would work things out, we have some bad news. Just days after it was reported that the young couple had called off their engagement, TMZ has learned that Grande has reportedly returned her 3.03-carat diamond engagement ring to her ex-fiancé. According to reports, the couple ended their deeply scrutinized relationship because it had become “too much too soon.”

Sources close to Ariana told TMZ that Grande never even considered keeping the ring, since Davidson had “bought it in contemplation of marriage.” Grande was “quick to fork it over,” the source added. But the same can't be said for Piggy Smallz, the pet pig the couple purchased and shared. TMZ reports that since it was Grande who actually purchased the pig, she's the one who gets to keep it.

Despite the breakneck nature of their romance-which altogether lasted less than a year-it's still surreal watching these two dividing their assets. No matter what you thought about Pete and Ariana's relationship, their sheer ubiquity this summer made them impossible to avoid. Whether it was their endless PDA or their long list of matching tattoos, these two took hold of the cultural imagination unlike any other celebrity couple in recent memory.

And while their engagement did seem hasty to some, it felt like these two had every intention of getting married. "The day I met her, I was like, 'Hey, I'll marry you tomorrow,'" Davidson told GQ earlier this year. "She was calling my bluff. I sent her a picture of engagement rings. I was like, 'Do you like any of these?' She was like, 'Those are my favorite ones,' and I was like, 'Sick.'"

Grande also predicted that she'd one day marry Davidson after meeting him on Saturday Night Live three years prior. “I left his writer's room when were writing skits for this show and my tour manager was in the hallway-and I'm not like a crush-y person,” she told Jimmy Fallon. “I don't have crushes on people I don't know. But I left and I like jokingly said to my tour manager, I said, 'I'm marrying him, 100%. I'm literally marrying him.'”

But now that it's over, we're unfortunately left to sort through the same debris that comes with any major public split. Best of luck, you two.
