After welcoming their third child on Monday, April 23, Kate Middleton and Prince William have finally announced the name of their baby boy. Say hello to… Louis Arthur Charles, the littlest royal!
On Friday, April 27, Kensington Palace made the official announcement, stating, “The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to announce that they have named their son Louis Arthur Charles. The baby will be known as His Royal Highness Prince Louis of Cambridge.” Bow down to Prince Louis, y'all.
The name comes as somewhat of a surprise to many royal speculators. Oddsmakers previously ranked the names Albert and Arthur among the mostly likely monikers to be bestowed upon the royal baby. Then just yesterday, The Daily Mail reported that some Internet sleuths had found a secret landing page on the royal family's website reserved for a Prince Albert, further supporting the Albert theory. And while those oddsmakers weren't too far off, considering that the Duke and Duchess chose Arthur as their child's middle name, Albert is nowhere to be seen in the little one's full moniker. But, as People reports, all three of the young royal's names hold some significance.
According to People, Louis is supposedly a tribute to Prince Philip's grandfather (that would be Prince Louis's great-great-great-grandfather!), Prince Louis Alexander of Battenberg. Prince Louis also shares the name with his own father, Prince William, whose full name is William Arthur Philip Louis, as well as his new big brother Prince George, whose full name is George Alexander Louis.

This little one also shares his middle name of Arthur with his father and his grandfather, Prince Charles, as the moniker is somewhat of a family tradition with mythological roots (think King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table). And finally, the royal baby's third name of Charles is, of course, in honor of his grandfather Prince Charles.
And there you have it: His Royal Highness Prince Louis of Cambridge, a baby already more famous than you.
