Adele, herself the queen of officiating wedding ceremonies, first confirmed that she'd secretly tied the knot with her longtime partner Simon Konecki during an acceptance speech at the Grammys in 2017. However, after about three years of marriage, Adele and Konecki have announced they're splitting up.
Reps for Adele confirmed the sad news on Friday in a public statement. “Adele and her partner have separated,” Benny Tarantini and Carl Fysh wrote in an email, according to the Associated Press. “They are committed to raising their son together lovingly. As always they ask for privacy. There will be no further comment.”
Rumors that Adele got engaged to the co-founder of the eco-friendly brand Life Water began swirling back in 2016, about three years after the pop singer had given birth to their son Angelo James Konecki. They were spotted wearing matching rings a few months later and Adele revealed that she had, in fact, married Konecki when she received the award for "album of the year" at the 2017 Grammys.
"Grammys, I appreciate it; the Academy, I love you; my manager, my husband, and my son-you're the only reason I do it," she said. She later opened up about married life while discussing her hit "Someone Like You" with audiences in Australia.
"I was trying to remember how it was I felt at the beginning of the relationship that inspired that record, because as bad as a break up can be, as bitter and horrible and messy as it can be, that feeling when you first fall for someone is the best feeling on earth, and I am addicted to that feeling," she said about the song. Then she added, "Obviously I can't go through with those feelings because I'm married now. I've found my next person."
The news is definitely heartbreaking and comes just when Adele was spotted ducking into a recording studio, prompting rumors of that she's working on new music. The forthcoming material might offer insight into the end of the relationship, but fans will have to wait until she's ready to share.
